Rain: A Magpie Tale

I remember the year I became best friends with the rain.
It was 7th grade so that would make me..... 12 years old.
It was a crappy year, 7th grade.
I was then, as I am now, the fattest girl in the class.
And the worst of the worst of terrible terrors happened that year
Dressing out for PE
And.... the unspeakable horror.... showers....
I had no escape
No champion
Until the clouds came and the rain settled in and offered respite from the pain
Rain gave me safety and comfort
I survived the terrors and the horrors of growing up
And the rain still is my friend
I know it is supposed to be dismal and melancholy
But not to me....

I came from a private school and what a shock 7th grade pe class was for me. Showers ... no privacy. I can remember that like it was yesterday.

I like rain too. I used to walk home (High School) in it. Course it rains so much here, it's like liquid sunshine to me.

Maybe not for the same reasons as yours .. rain has always been a comfort to me as well. It is cleansing ... I enjoyed reading your Magpie. It was honest and full of insight.
