I Have a Bird Brain

So I was driving the other day down a rural road and there was this beautiful quail along the side of the road.
He was so pretty. I know it was a boy because he had that little dingle-berry thing hanging over his face. How irritating would that be? Girl quails don't have that. This is my theory on why that have that: When you see a little flock of quail there is always a boy out front leading the pack. I think that dingle-berry thing is like someone hanging a carrot out front to make the horse keep going. He doesn't even know it is part of his own body. He just keeps on going trying to catch it.

The other thing about quail is that they like to run. A lot. They CAN fly but they just seem to use flight as a last resort because you see them running their little feet off. Then every once in awhile they kinda fly for a foot or so and you can tell they are thinking "Oh My Gosh!! What just happened????"

So back to Quail Boy. He decides he can run a lot faster if he runs down the middle of the road. Right down the middle. So I am following along behind him in my car. An 8 ounce bird being followed by Lola, my Toyota Carolla.

And I think----- I am this bird.

I chase after things sometimes that aren't very important. I wear myself out trying to run faster, do more, be busier-- when I have resources available to me to make life easier. And a lot of the time I get in my own way.

And yet, there is God, following along behind me. Not running me over but patiently keeping an eye out and watching to see what I am going to do with myself.

Yeah, I am a bird brain.

Not bad being a bird. I wish I could fly around for a day, just to see what their lives are like.

I love how messages come to us, sometimes in odd ways, but if we're paying attention, they're there!
